Amani Ya Juu

Amani's website

From the website:
Amani ya Juu means “higher peace” in Swahili. Amani is a fair trade sewing and training program for marginalized women in Africa. Women from many African nations and cultures are learning to work together through faith in God who provides a higher peace that transcends cultural and ethnic differences. Amani is committed to holistic development. Women gain experience in purchasing, bookkeeping, stitching, quality control, management, and design. As new women enter the program they are mentored in quality workmanship. Emphasis is placed on ethical business practices and harmonious relationships with people of different backgrounds. Amani’s wide selection of high-quality handbags, home & kitchen décor, jewelry, and children’s items are made out of local African materials. Products sold by volunteers and in Amani shops all over the world enables each woman to earn consistent income.

Oh and I forget to mention they make their own fabric too! Amani purchases white fabric then uses hot white wax and wooden stamps to make their own batiks. Or they use screen prints on the white fabric too. All fabric is hand-dyed to the specific colors of the season or for special orders too.

Here are some pictures from my tour.
