Field Trip to the Air Strip

While visiting my friends and their many children we heard a plane arriving. Not an unusual thing since they are always coming and going. However, this plane was bringing our team mates returning from Nairobi. The children knew several of those coming back into Doro today. So I asked them, "Do you want to go to see the plane?" Well they all got so excited! The children were running around screaming for the other children to come. The mothers were dressing the babies in nice clothes. It was a sight to see all the commotion happening just to go see the plane. Well within in a minutes we were off!

It is about a 20 to 30 minute walk to the airstrip. At times I was reminded of the movie 'Peter Pan' where the children are marching with the Lost Boys through the forest following the leader. We all followed one another in a line for the most part. The older children, ages 11-12 years, were carrying the babies (between 6 to 9 months). The other children that came along were between the ages of 3 to 10 years. And me, the one and only adult.

Not sure how many children and babies came along for our field trip but it was a great time! And I was so impressed with how they all stayed together and behaved around the plane too!!  When I said it was time to go back home the older children rounded up everyone and we hiked back home. It was such fun to see their smiles to see the plane and the inside too :)

All these photos except the last two were taken by my friend Eliya, age 12.
